In April 2020, Voices Rock Medicine – a choir made up of soprano and alto physicians in Toronto – premiered an amazing video of them singing “together” through the use of technology – all separately filmed videos compiled to create a virtual choir. Inspired by the Toronto-based choir, there are at least two new physician choirs started in the past few months – Vancouver-based Vox Panacea and the Calgary Physician Choir, all rehearsing using online platforms.
For so many physicians, choral singing is a place to forget about the worries of the day and just breathe and do something creative. The added advantage of singing in your living room (or call-room!) and that no one else in the rehearsal can hear you is liberating – especially for those who have not sung in a choir for many years!
