With One Voice: Our 38th Season

For Phoenix Chamber Choir, singing is more than a hobby: it is an essential part of who we are and how we engage with the world. For us, singing offers unifying power, even during an era that not one of us could have predicted, when so much is keeping us apart, and where the injustices of the world weigh heavy. We have told you from the beginning that we are strong, we are committed, and we will continue to spread hope through music.

Thus, it is with great joy and pride that we present our 38th annual season: With One Voice.

The season will offer three outstanding concerts, all conducted by our fearless Artistic Director, Dr. Nicholle Andrews. Each concert will offer unique elements new to the Phoenix tradition, as well as the familiarity of strong harmonies and classical choral music. One of the more notable new additions is the opportunity to stream the season online, due to the inability to gather large crowds. We are already hard at work preparing these virtual concerts, which will offer a rich experience and up-close interaction with Phoenix, despite the different setting.

On October 24, we will present Gathering Together; on December 20 we will host our classic Christmas concert, Rejoice and Sing; and on April 22, after much anticipation, we hope to reunite at Vancouver’s VanDusen Botanical Gardens for Earth Songs.

But that’s not all: most notably, Phoenix is proud to be presenting the renowned British group, VOCES8, at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

When we dreamt of this event over 8 months ago, we had no idea the impact of its timing; but we are elated today to be offering this concert as a gift to our Vancouver music community and as an act of hope in an era that has brought so much disheartenment. We look forward to you enjoying this world-class event with us in the springtime.

Tickets to all three Phoenix concerts and the VOCES8 concert will go on sale at the end of the summer.

We are hosting virtual auditions for the 2020-2021 season from now until mid-June. Upon submitting an audition recording, singers are invited to inquire about the unique logistics of the upcoming year. Over the coming weeks we will release more information about the details of concert precautions. We are all learning through this experience and ensure you that the safety and health of our singers and audience is our first priority.

We look forward to you joining us, from near or far, in the months to come.
