Assistant Conductor Ian Bannerman Stepping Down

It is with sadness and well wishes that Phoenix announces the resignation of Assistant Conductor, Ian Bannerman.

Bannerman was a Phoenix singer during his undergraduate years at UBC and returned to the choir in 2019 to join Dr. Nicholle Andrews on the podium as Assistant Conductor. Since Dr. Andrews is located in California where she is the Director of Choral Studies at the University of Redlands, Bannerman was tasked with filling the substantial role of leading weekly rehearsals and preparing the choir for concerts.

Following the 2019-2020 cancellation and a shifting world due to the Covid-19 crisis, Bannerman has decided to move to Edmonton to be near his partner and pursue a life there. Choral music will continue to be a cornerstone for him and we wish him the absolute best of luck. The Phoenix Family is not limited by geography and we are grateful for Ian’s years of involvement and service.

Phoenix is eager to introduce our next Assistant Conductor in the coming weeks.
